Maxine “Granny” Kerr will be missed by all.

The services in her honor will be held at Colonial Heights Assembly of God at 5200 South Broadway in Wichita. The visitation will be on Sunday, December 6, at 3:00-5:00pm. The funeral will be on Monday, December 7, at 10:00am with the graveside ceremony immediately following.

The family has been overwhelmed by your words of encouragement, remembrance and love during this time. The generous outpouring of physical help including food and other provisions has been a Godsend. We are truly blessed to be surrounded by such wonderful people.

The Dawn has Arrived

Granny has made her journey home, taking her last breaths just a few moments ago. In agreement with the siblings’ wishes, she will be taken to Baker Funeral Home straightaway…so any viewing of the body will need to be arranged with them. Her dawn after the dark night has arrived and while we grieve from our momentary loss we rejoice in her eternal gain.

Yesterday we moved mom to St. Francis Hospital. The move was terribly hard for her despite our attempts to prepare her body with medication before the move. She is extremely weak and cannot speak to us but she uses her eyes to communicate when she is awake, which is very seldom. Her breathing has become labored and shallow.

On a good note, this facility is very accommodating to our large family with a place for us to meet and eat. There are no visiting hours, so we are welcome to come and go at any hour. The nurses and doctor treat mom with great respect doing all they can for her to remain comfortable.

Thank you to our Colonial Heights Family for providing food last night to feed our many mouths. I don’t know how we would make it through this without all the support we have felt from our friends and family.

The Lord has given us one more day with Mom. She is sleeping quite a bit which is due to the medication that is given to her to relieve the terrible pain she is in. We don’t know what today will bring, but the Lord does. All we can do is rejoice and be glad for the day the Lord has given to us. Please pray for comfort from the pain for mom and for us, God’s comfort, sustaining grace, patience and wisdom.

Good morning all…..just wanted to let you know that Granny is resting now. She was awake and singing and praying this morning…will keep you updated. She slept well last night.

It appears that the end is coming soon. The toxins are going throughout her body. She seems in peace with family all around her. Ben, Mark’s son, brought his guitar and we have been singing with her. Even in this state she is able to mouth the words to the songs while the family was singing. It seems to calm her when she hears her favorite choruses. Tomorrow Hospice is coming to meet with us for a possible move to St. Francis Hospice Floor.

Mom is weaker today and in a little more pain. Our Aunt Phyllis and Uncle Lyle came up from Texas to help us out by staying with Mom today while we all went to work and what a blessing they were. We are spending as much time with Mom while we can. We continue to ask that you lift Mom up in prayer for comfort from the pain and healing in the body. We realize that her healing may come in her transending from earth to glory. In addition, we ask that you pray that God will give us comfort and strength during this time. Thank you so much for those prayers that already have been said on our behalf.

The Day of Rest

Granny has had a day of peace and rest. We asked for people to pray so that she would be able to be comfortable. Thank you for your continual prayer and support. She has slept all day except for meal times and the pain seems to be under control. She needs healing from infection and peace and clarity of mind.

Mom slept good last night which we are very thankful. She seems more relaxed than she has in the past couple of days and her blood pressure has come down somewhat from Thursday. Our days are beginning to run together, so it is hard to remember when all the different events have happened. To help us we are now writing down when she takes her medicine, when they take the blood pressure, and her disposition throughout the day. The bladder infection is not responding to the medicine, so the doctor is trying something different today. We continue to ask for God’s healing touch on her body and relief from the pain in her legs. The vascular disease in the legs is quickly taking over. We don’t know what the future holds so if you would like to see Mom, now would be the time to come. Mom continues to thank God for his saving grace and mercy.

She Had A Good Day

Last night was a difficult one for Granny. She was very confused and unable to let us know where she hurt or the bad dreams she was having. Needless to say, she was very restless and didn’t get much sleep after 2:00 a.m. However, after some cloudy visions this morning, her mind seems to have cleared up quite a bit. She knows who we are and is looking forward to a good night’s sleep.

She ate two meals and drinking Ensure today, but is refusing to take medication and claiming a healing, in the name of Jesus. We are trying to convince her that taking the medicine doesn’t mean she won’t be healed. The nurses and aides are the enemy today and she is very paranoid that they are going to kill her.

She has had several visitors today. Granny is claiming the blood of Jesus and knowing that through faith and prayer healing and answers are coming. She has a low grade temp tonight, the right leg and foot is mottling to the mid-thigh and the left stump is mottling as well. We aren’t planning to do any surgery at this time for either leg. The doctors are concentrating on clearing up the infection in her body first.

The roommate mom had when she came was moved down the hall to allow for a Dr. ordered private room. The hospital is extremely crowded, so nurses are very busy, but they are working so well with mom, in all the confusion.

Please continue to pray for her to be comfortable and give her peace so she can rest.

Mom seems to be in quite a bit of pain today and very restless. the doctors are planning to run some tests today to see if there is something they are missing. The left stump is having issues in addition to the right leg, so the doctors are telling us they may have to remove more of the left leg. Any surgery could be fatal to her. For now, the doctors are treating the urinary tract infection and hoping her confusion will diminish so they can pinpoint where her pain is coming from. It is difficult to see her in so much pain and yet letting go is not easy either. We ask that you pray for God to give us the strength to make it each day and to give Mom relief from the pain.
